Religious Items Found Throughout France!

There are some beautiful religious items around, some of which are truly delightful.

I have some charming religious statues which I found in France. These are often made of plaster and delicately painted, and are still found in niches above houses throughout France.

In France, both in the town and countryside, it is still possible to see small niches built above the doorway. These are to place a religious icon, which is often depicting a saint, and acts as a protector for the home and family.

There are also many large cast iron or stone crosses or statues, placed along the roadsides, and often positioned at crossroads or in the centre of villages. These were erected as places to pause and reflect and to guide the weary travellers on their way.

In addition, a common site in any French town or village is the war memorial, again often with patriotic statues, to commemorate the fallen in two world wars. These are reminders of the terrible loss suffered by France during the first half of the twentieth century.
