Why custody of the child favors the most responsible spouse

My parents are always fighting and I always ask myself how they even fell in love. When they are together, there is either awkward silence, or I get used as a mediator or they bicker all the time. My mother is the one who is constantly hurt by my father. She quit her job in order to take care of me and my father keeps on telling her that she is useless. That hurts both her and me because she is the smartest person that I have ever met. My father is a tycoon who is well known not only for his wealth but also of his escapades with other women. This humiliates my mother and on that account, she filed for divorce and kicked my father out of the house. He had me every Friday night and one day my mother came to pick me up and found my father entertaining his lady guest in my presence. This caused her to demand the court that the parents rights custody do not favor him. Because he was exposing me to an environment that was not good for me, and the court granted her wish and I only met my father in public places for a few hours
